Important Statement about Revoked ELDs
When the FMCSA revokes an “ELD”, people who do not fully understand the definition of an ELD sometimes mistakenly think the hardware has been revoked or is at fault.
It’s important to understand that what is subject to revocation is a non-compliant “ELD solution”, which is an ELD app and related services + hardware, and not the ELD hardware device itself.
Revocations of ELD solutions happen with various devices from various hardware companies, and non-compliance is due to what the ELD app developer does with their app and/or related services, not because of the hardware itself. In fact, sometimes an ELD solution is revoked for more than one combination of software and hardware at the same time. For example, an ELD solution may be revoked at the same time with app + PT30 as well as with app + another device.
If there is an impression that a higher number of revoked ELD solutions use the PT30, that would only be because the PT30 is a more popular and widely used device.
